Tanisha Arroyo

April 2004

Greetings to my wonderful sisters of Sisterfriends~
My name is Tanisha Arroyo. I was born in Brooklyn, NY but at the age of 10, my family relocated to “upstate” NY and there I spent the majority of my childhood. Being the oldest of three children, the pressure was on ME to ‘do right’ and everything else . I can honestly say it has been God’s grace and mercy that has allowed me to break many cycles in my family and personal life. I am the first to attend and graduate from an institution of higher learning. I have my Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (Africana-Latino Studies and Women Studies) from the State University of New York at Oneonta and my Master of Arts in Social Science from Binghamton University. Immediately after graduate school I became a new mom and wife. As if that was not enough on my plate, we moved to Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. This is where my family and I now call home. I have been blessed to find and to be married to a wonderful man of God. Jose and I have been married 5yrs. as of February 5th 2004. We have two beautiful boys; Taji – 5yrs. old and Ke’Shon is 3yrs. old. Being a full time, stay at home mom is “what I do”. Initially, this was a difficult decision to make and honestly was not my intention…but “to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). To be a wife and a mom is “more than a notion”, as PAM’S Pres. De’Edra would say!!

Secretary - Pottsville Chapter

Living in Pennsylvania has truly been challenging, especially without any family members nearby or ties to this community. I have been fortunate enough to find a loving church family and Pastor’s that have taken us under their wings. To De’Edra - I thank God for you and your commitment, perseverance and love. Forming PAM chapter has been an answered prayer for many of us, in and out of PAM chapter. I would also like to give thanks to Sisterfriends founder, Michele Johnson for her vision. My Sisterfriends came at a time where I felt as though I had truly lost myself and the desire or will to even care. For me, PAM Chapter of Sisterfriends is more than a community organization. It is truly a family. Being part of Sisterfriends has allowed me to re-open that part of myself again and do what I love…but to also see myself in the women I now call my sisters and in the women we serve as well. May the Lord continue to bless ALL the women that are dedicated to service and sisterhood. ~Joy & Blessings to you all~

Sisterly,
SF Tanisha D. Arroyo, PAM Secretary
