| Christine Gonzalez Garrett September 2003 I can do all things through Christ whom strengthens me. Philippians 4:13. Greetings and Butterfly Kisses! On behalf of myself and the members of the Washington Suburban Chapter of the Sisterfriends® Organization, the chapter in which I humbly preside over, I am so blessed to have such an opportunity to lead one of the most dynamic and phenomenal groups of women. I am the eldest of 4 sisters and was born in the Bedford Stuyvesant ‘Do or Die Bed-Stuy’ section of Brooklyn, New York. I moved to Maryland in my twenties and after 10 years of hard work and perseverance, I graduated in 2002 from the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.A. in Spanish concentrating in Business Spanish and Translation, with a minor in Government and Politics. In May 2003, I was accepted into the Master’s Program in Nonprofit Management at Eastern University. I will receive my M.S. in December 2004. I have been married to my best friend, Schaloyn for 2 years. If you ever want to hear a true testimony of unexpected love and true commitment, ask me about how we met! Currently I have no children but I have 3 beautiful cats, Fern, Michaela, and Pepper who bring me much joy and peace. Tadalafil 20 In addition to being a pet lover, I am a lover of books, all types of music (I currently have some old New York and Chicago House in my CD player) and nature programs. I am passionate about women’s issues and issues that affect our youth. I came across the Sisterfriends® cyberforums back in 2000. I had been in Maryland for a few years and was really looking to make an effort to connect with women in the DC area. I connected with Shantel Fountain, my chapter treasurer and joined with her book club, Mahogany Literary Circle. Although I was never an active participant on the cyberforums, I enjoyed reading the various posts and appreciated the camaraderie that existed among the women. So when I noticed that our founder Michele Johnson created an organization to carry on the ‘sisterfriend’ spirit, I wanted to part of her mission. best hair loss treatment |
President - Washington Suburban Chapter
I along with 7 other women started the Washington Suburban Sisterfriends chapter because we firmly believed in the mission of the Sisterfriends® Organization. With our remaining members we have a vision for this chapter to be a changing agent in the Washington, DC area. Too many of our people’s basic needs are not being met by the individuals charged to provide those services. Our women lead many of these homes and don’t have the information available to provide the best care for themselves and their families. They are single moms trying to do what they can to get by. Through our chapter motto, ‘Strength and Solidarity Through Sisterhood™’, we desire for our chapter to be a mechanism to empower our women by providing them with the tools and resources needed so that they can progress in every facet of their lives. After all, sisterfriends are multifaceted women. We just don’t raise our children, we work our 9-5, we volunteer, we are active at our places of worship, we care for our families, we care for our mates and if we find the time, we pamper OURSELVES. kiev apartments In addition to my work with the Washington Suburban Sisterfriends, I am an active member with the Capital City Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW) and I am on the Board of Directors for EduSerc (Educators Serving the Community), a grassroots nonprofit organization located in Laurel, Maryland. To my officers, thank you for your commitment to our chapter. To the National Executive Board, led by our founder Michele Johnson, thank you for your energy, spirit and commitment to this organization. To my fellow Sisterfriends, many blessings to you--you are all phenomenal women. Let no one tell you otherwise. May we continue to be the beautiful creatures that we are, butterflies casting rays of sunshine onto the world.
